While the Defense operations are motivated by protection factor,
yet there are different ways through which they are carried out.
The United States Air Force is one of the most
important wings that carry out this task. Supported by the Army
and Navy of the State it plays a crucial
role in conducting military operations in space and air. USAF owes
its origin to the Army Air Corps, formed in 1947. The United States
Air Force is the acknowledged guardian that controls exploitation
of the country through air or space.
The United States Air Force maintains almost sixty
percent of the country’s nuclear force with land-based nuclear
missiles and a fleet of strategic bombers. For surveillance, it
maintains and launches military satellites so that nothing passes
unnoticed. The nine major commands of the USAF organized on a functional
basis works within the country while for overseas task the division
mainly depends on the geographic locations.
Beneath each command, the United States Air Force
operational unit varies widely. It depends on factors like the type
of mission, squadron and aircraft. The immediate operation determines
the number of aircrafts in a squadron. There are 8 to 16 aircraft
in a transport squadron, 18 to 24 in a fighter squadron and 10 to
20 aircraft in a bomber squadron. A USAF wing includes four or more
squadrons. It often has separate operations, support groups and
logistics.
The United States Air Force aides the other military
systems also. It plays a strategic role in nuclear deterrence. It
is the most effective means of transporting American forces to the
disturbed areas. The USAF contributes in giving the US
Army an edge over its rivals. It supplies equipment and weapons
in no time and becomes crucial in changing the course of battle
towards its ultimate win. Its services extend beyond the borders,
and give America an edge over other countries, making it the leader
in terms of military might.
